I Dreamed I was the Whale and the Wolf
The Story
After my daughter was born, a dream came to me—one that felt more like a message than a memory.
I was a whale, gliding effortlessly through the deep, the cold water rushing past my skin. Then, in an instant, I became a wolf, emerging from the ocean and slipping into the forest’s shadowy embrace. The transformation felt ancient, like something written long before me.
I knew this dream carried great meaning. My search for understanding led me to the Haida origin story for the orca —the Seawolf. Was the orca speaking to me? Perhaps. But what I do know is that it left me with a profound reverence for the Earth and its beings, a reminder that we are never separate from the wildness of the world—we are part of it.
