In Communion With Dorian
The Story
In 2019, Hurricane Dorian swept toward Prince Edward Island, Canada, a force both feared and revered. A Mi’kmaw friend spoke of Dorian with deep respect, recognizing her as a powerful being, not just a storm. That perspective resonated deeply with me.
On the night she arrived, I sat on my front step, sage and tobacco in hand, ready to offer. The wind howled, the trees bent, and the sky churned with movement. Yet, in the heart of the storm, there was beauty—wild, untamed, undeniable. As Dorian passed overhead, she accepted the offerings, carrying them away on the wind.
Though she was a formidable force, honoring her brought a profound sense of connection—one stronger than ever before. In that moment, the storm was not an enemy but a presence, alive and aware. And for the first time, the Earth did not feel separate—it felt like home.
