Protector

I never really know fully why I paint a certain subject. This one is no different. I wanted to paint a fisher. And my dad came to mind. But then I remembered a story Ruby told me about catching a turtle by accident and my dad releasing it back to the water. I thought I’d paint an albino turtle. White animals are very sacred and I feel like these times are so sacred. I was almost done but I wanted to put something in his hand. An egg immediately popped up. For this man to be holding an egg that had been displaced from this mother’s nest seemed right. It feels like he’s telling her he’ll take care of it. And then I realized she is Mother Earth. We all should take on this role of protector. Thanks Dad for bringing this story through.
