“Sacred Offerings to the Whale Spirits”
Three young male sperm whales rose from the deep off the western shores of Epekwitk (PEI), carrying ancient messages from the ocean’s heart. My guides directed me to make a braid offering and so I asked my friend Eastern Star Turtle who lives near the whales to offer three braids of sweetgrass to honor the spirits of these magnificent creatures. He so kindly agreed and later I realized it was just such a beautiful expression of the sacred masculine. This ceremony, a shared ceremonial effort between friends, felt like the meeting of masculine and feminine, light and dark, ancient and new.
In the painting, a man stands before a whale beneath the water, sweetgrass spiraling upward — splitting night and day, red moon and golden sun. Eagles soar above and etween them, the starfield opens, the place where all worlds meet. A sea turtle rises toward three hovering whales to guide their dissolving forms into the void and back to Creator.
This painting carries the energy of our shared ceremony, an honoring, a remembrance, and a call for harmony between all beings, above and below.
